In my season of rest, I feel God calling me back to a simpler time with Him. When it was all about spending time with Him, and not about what I did and produced for Him. Resting is not always easy for me, but it is necessary.
When I gave birth to my children, it required a lot of effort to deliver them. My body had to recover afterwards. I couldn’t just run a marathon the very next day. Also, I was feeding my baby from my own body. When I was nursing I had to eat thousands of calories a day. I couldn’t just eat what would I normally eat. I had to double or triple my normal caloric intake.
The same is true for us. We need to be feeding our souls in order to feed others.
Elijah was a prophet of God who came pretty close to burnout.
Here’s a short list of what he had been doing:
-Brought a boy back to life.
-Sent down fire from heaven.
-Ran a distance of over 15 miles in the power of the Lord.
-Prayed for rain after a three and a half year drought.
He had been doing what the Lord wanted and commanded him to do. Oh and did I mention he was being hunted by Queen Jezebel to be killed? He was tired. So tired, that this is what he did:
